10:00 Keynote speaker: Rebekkah Smith Aldrich: Sustainable Thinking for the Future of Libraries 

Rebekkah Smith Aldrich (MLS, LEED AP) is the Executive Director of the Mid-Hudson Library System. Rebekkah currently serves as the co-chair of the American Library Association’s (ALA) Special Task Force on Sustainability, as an advisory board member for the ALA Center for the Future of Libraries, and is the co-founder of both the ALA Sustainability Round Table and the New York Library Association’s Sustainability Initiative. A frequent international speaker on the topic of libraries and sustainability, Rebekkah is the author of Sustainable Thinking: Ensuring Your Library’s Future in an Uncertain World and Resilience, part of the Library Futures Series from ALA Editions. Sustainability is now a core value of the profession but what does that actually mean? Get in on the ground floor of one of the most important issues facing our local and global communities. From getting a better understanding of basic concepts such as “sustainable thinking” and the “triple bottom line” of sustainability to practical, applicable ideas you can implement as soon as you get back to your library, this session will help prepare you to become a leader on the topic of sustainability in your library and for your community.
