Dianne Hathaway, director of the Goffstown Public Library, is the 2018 winner of the Ann Geisel Award of Merit.
Dianne is not only an excellent librarian for her community, but she has clearly gone above and beyond in her demonstrated contribution to the profession. She has been a mentor to many, including officially at NELLS. She has been secretary of NHLA and on the conference committee and executive board of NELA. She has served as the president of the GMILCS consortium. As a colleague, Mary Ann List, wrote in support, “Dianne fights the easy battles and the hard ones, always representing libraries with caring and knowledge.”
Dianne is creative and inspires others. Carl Heidenblad says, “Many of us in NH watch the ‘goings on’ at the Goffstown Public Library to see what new service Dianne and her team have come up with, or to see what twist they’ve put on an existing service to keep it fresh!”
Dianne not only serves the NH library community herself, she also brings others into activity. Denise van Zanten writes, “I can still remember the day that Dianne told me, that is correct she did not ask me, that I was joining the NELA conference committee, so I could broaden my professional network.”
And Dianne is an amazing mentor. Amy Lapointe provides her personal testimony, “My first job out of library school was working as Assistant Director, under Dianne at the Goffstown Public Library. I knew by the end of my first week that I had lucked out professionally. Before I even started, she had signed me up to serve on the READS Programming Committee and explained the importance of serving our state association and networking with colleagues. Also from the beginning of my tenure, she set about creating a plan to ensure that I would have the opportunity to the develop the skills that I would need in my next job. And I know that I am not the only young professional who has had the benefit of her tutelage. She truly has an unparalleled commitment to mentoring young professionals. At any stage of your career, Dianne will always take the time to suggest a course of action, or share an example policy or document, or just lend an ear during a challenging time.”
Join us all in celebrating the Ann Geisel Award of Merit winner for 2018, Dianne Hathaway!
