The American Library Association (ALA) recently released the number of members they have by state/territory, and I wanted to share some of this info with New Hampshire Library Association members because it reflects well on our library community in New Hampshire.
Out of the six New England states, New Hampshire has the third highest membership rate in ALA, only behind Massachusetts and Connecticut. For a state of our small size, this is amazing! We also have more ALA members than New Mexico, Nevada, Mississippi, and Nebraska.
For those who like to see numbers, the ALA membership total is 53,341. New Hampshire has 413 ALA members. The state with the highest number of members is California, at 4,726.
Thank you to all New Hampshire librarians and libraries who belong to ALA. Our membership numbers show that we value professional development and want to stay current regarding the larger issues facing public libraries across the nation. Kudos to us!
