Due to unforeseen technical difficulties, audio recordings of the Catherine Redden Lecture and Friday luncheon speaker are not available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

NHLA Conference

Thanks to all the conference planners and those who manned the tables and kept things running smoothly.  The READS-TO-GO committee enjoyed our discussion roundtable: Read Any Good Books Lately?  And, from the conference evaluations it seems that the participants did too!

On the www.reads-to-go.org blog we have summarized our part in last week’s conference.  Check it out, and check back over the next week or so when we’ll be announcing the newest kit titles!

We Have Winners!

The 2010 winners of the Great Stone Face and Isinglass book awards were announced at the New Hampshire Library Association’s annual spring conference on May 13th and 14th.  These awards are sponsored by CHILIS, and are chosen by youth from across the state.  The Great Stone Face Book Award winner, chosen by kids in grades 4 to 6, is Swindle by Gordon Korman.  The winner of the Isinglass Teen Read Award, chosen by teens in grades 7 and 8, is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

The Great Stone Face and Isinglass websites have further information, including:

  • lists of the 2010-2011 nominees
  • lists of past winners
  • award criteria
  • committee information
  • order forms for things such as bookmarks and posters

Those are just a few of the resources available, so do take advantage of those sites.  If you have additional questions or feedback, the chairs’ contact information is available here.

SNHU Academic Archive Now Accessible Worldwide

Here’s an interesting development in the world of NH libraries…

Student research from Southern New Hampshire University is now available worldwide in the SNHU Academic Archive, an online repository of student achievement, faculty research, and university archival material. It may be accessed from http://academicarchive.snhu.edu. This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Alice Platt"The Academic Archive was created to make previously inaccessible faculty and student scholarly output freely available to anyone anywhere in the world," said Alice Platt, digital initiatives librarian. "Making papers and presentations from SNHU faculty and students available online is a great benefit for individuals conducting research; particularly those in rural areas who do not have research libraries nearby.”

The flagship collection is a selection of student thesis projects and dissertations from Southern New Hampshire University’s Community Economic Development program. Dating from 1983 to the present, the projects tackle a range of issues such as housing, local agricultural development, child care, and HIV/AIDS. Previously, the projects were only available from the Shapiro Library on SNHU’s campus.

Way to go SNHU, and Alice in particular!
