Notes on Barnes and Noble Fundraiser

Thanks to all the libraries that helped to raise money for the Great Stone Face Award by distributing vouchers for the Barnes and Noble fundraiser! Many librarians played a role in helping to get the word out about this two day event on April 20th and 21st - the beautiful weather translated into slow business in general for the Barnes and Noble stores, but thanks again to all who participated!

Conference Extension

Sign up now!  An extension has been arranged for registration at the spring NHLA Conference!  Not only can you still register for the conference but you can register to stay at the Mt. Washington Hotel at a discounted rate through the weekend.

For more information about conference and hotel registration, visit http://nhlibconf.org

If you have questions, please email me at hshumway@hooksett.lib.nh.us

I hope to see you all there!

Register Today for Conference Hotel

Today is the cut off date to reserve a room at the unbelievable rate of $119 a night! If you are coming to the New Hampshire Libraries Conference, you may not know that the hotel extends its $119 rate for the remainder of the weekend to conference attendees. Previously we thought the Taste of New Hampshire was following our conference which is a plus for some and a minus for others. It turns out that the Taste of NH is the weekend before, so we have most of the hotel to ourselves. There is a lap pool, a heated outdoor pool and a 6 person jucazzi at the hotel. There is also shuttle access to the Bretton Woods sports complex, all a part of your accommodations. The main dining room will be open all weekend that includes an ala carte menu and Stickney's on Friday night. The hotel also provides free shuttle service to Fabyan's restaurant (train station). It is also possible for you to get room service anywhere on the main floor, so you can eat by the fireplace if you want. Laura Knoy is our dinner speaker on Thursday night.

For more information on the conference go to http://nhlibconf.org/

READS-TO-GO Meeting has been cancelled

Access.NewspaperArchive.com

As a reference librarian, I am often asked by students where they can find good primary resources. One resource I've increasingly pointed our customers to is Access.NewspaperArchive.com. Access NewspaperARCHIVE is a program that gives public libraries and K-12 schools around the world FREE access to NewspaperARCHIVE.com's historical newspaper database. This free version of Access NewspaperARCHIVE allows users to view, save and print full-page newspapers dating from 1759 to 1977. The content is also keyword searchable! Unfortunately, access to historic New Hampshire newspapers is excluded. To gain access to that content, you've got to pony up some cash!

To find out more about this program, contact my good friend Scott Fisher at 888.870.0484 ext. 24 or by email at sfisher@heritagemicrofilm.com. Tell him Steve Butzel from the Nashua Public Library referred you!

p.s. If enough of us like the service, maybe we should consider asking the State Library to provide access to the for-fee New Hampshire content. Just a thought.

Have a great Children's Web Site??

Hi everyone,

If you are very proud of your library's children's Web site for it's usability and friendliness, would you please brag about it to me?  We're getting ready to redesign & are looking for some good ideas from smaller libraries.  I'm at director@wigginml.org

Thanks!
